Packaging and Branding Design: Kaiko
DESIGN BRIEF
Throughout the duration of the class, each student was assigned an edible insect to work with, immersing ourselves in the exploration of biomimicry within packaging design. With a strong emphasis on human-centered design, the graphic standard showcased captures the brand aesthetics and centers on creating packaging that resonates with consumers.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE
I took on the assignment of working with the silkworm, a well-known protein substitute in Asia. With a desire to introduce the delights of silkworm-based delicacies to the Western market, I embarked on creating a product and packaging that would serve as a perfect souvenir gift option.
DESIGN CONCEPT
KAIKO's target audience comprises young to working-class adults, aged 20-35, with an annual income ranging from $50,000 to $90,000. As a unique souvenir gift, Dragon Beard Candy, an East Asian cotton candy historically reserved for royalty, caught my attention. Given its rich heritage as a luxury delicacy, KAIKO's brand and packaging embrace a modern and minimalistic approach, infused with a blend of Asian and Western influences. The design exudes a sense of refined luxury while appealing to the contemporary tastes of our discerning audience.

PRODUCT STRATEGY
The hexagonal origami packaging gives an illusion of a flower with its six flaps that closes and opens giving consumers a fun experience when opening the packaging. The packaging is in a charcoal black color with a beige font color in Shree Devanagari 714 font type. Since the concept of this project is to incorporate bugs as a product, I tried to creating a pattern that showed silk, silkworms, and the mulberry leaf that the silkworms eat.The packaging is recyclable but also reusable. Since it is made in a nice big packaging, it can be used as a box or gift box for later uses.
